Actually, IR has been unable to maintain TPWS which was installed between TKD-RKMP. So Sometimes the Signal Aspect reflects on the WAP-5,s TPWS Loco Console. And sometimes it doesn't. NR/NCR has been running the trains as per the existing basis. Please note track is fit for 150/160KMPH ops.

Nothing of that sort. When TPWS was installed, it worked well for 150KMPH ops on the route. Infact GZB shed had nominated 3 WAP-5,s initially which has got the TPWS equipment installed. They were used for these high-speed ops. Locos / LHB rake for Bhopal Shatabdi/Gatimaan were maintained at New Delhi. The exact high-speed section is from Tughlakabad to Raja Ki Mandi. But then being an electrical software system, it needed upgrades/patch updates. Which was not done. You know how bureaucracy works. See once CRS gave approval to run the train at 150/160KMPH who cared. Anyways it was a small section of 170/180 odd kms. And drivers were confident of driving at such speed because they have been selected from the best of the lot. Yes from Agra all the way till Lalitpur the speed was 130KMPH post which till Bhopal it was 120 Kmph. ...

IR has never been an expect at raising avg speeds and top speeds because they were more focused on increasing haulage capacity both for passenger and freight.

When Bhopal Shatabdi was launched in 1988 CLW upgraded 5 WAP-1, s with flexi coil bogies called them WAP-3. The objective was to run train at 140Kmph between NDLS and Agra. It did but then bogies developed cracks. Therefore, after some time. in early 90, s Shatabdi was slowed down by 45 mins/1hr and WAP-3 went for POH and re-converted to WAP-1 class.

So high speed has never been IR forte. True high speed you see today is in RRTS as on date and offcourse bullet train when they start operating
