WELDING FAILURE of the track caused the train accident at CHITTERI where one person was killed and 32 injured when this train derailed between Arakonam and Mahendravadi at 5.50 am on April 10, 2013.
A provisional report issued by Mr. SK MITTAL, Commissioner of railway safety said that permanent or temporary speed restriction were not in place at the accident spot. "Upon careful consideration of the factual, material and circumstantial eviedence available , I have come to conclusion that derailment of the train was caused due to AT [Alumino-Thermic welding] weld failure", he said.
