After the completion of Stage-1 (8 km) and Stage-2 (11 km) works, the commissioner of railway safety will carry out trial runs for about four to six months to check the safety of the tracks, coaches and other issues concerning the safety of the metro rail. Only after getting green signal from them will the commercial operations begin, possibly in June 2015.
.
Work on all the three corridors _ Miyapur to LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma and Nagole to Hitec City _ will be completed by June 2017.

Reddy, along with HMRL and L&THMRL officials, took mediapersons to the work sites to show them the works being executed between Begumpet and Uppal. He said that the work was progressing at a brisk pace in coordination with the GHMC, water board, traffic police, APTransco, APCPDCL and other utilities, and that HMR was successfully tackling the challenges that were cropping up from time to time.
.
“The hard rock near the Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet, flyovers, high volumes of traffic and huge water pipelines, sewer lines, electrical and telecom cables etc are posing challenges in the core area. HMR and L&T are devising site-specific engineering solutions to tackle these problems and see that the work is completed as per schedule,’’ Reddy said.
.
L&T and HMRL engineers have been toiling hard for the last couple of years, (first year of alignment refinement, road widening, utilities identification and designs and drawings, and later on the ground work) to bring the project to its current state, NVS Reddy added.
.
Giving the latest status of the project, NVS Reddy said work on 26 km length of the total 72 km has been taken up till now.
.
Of the 2,500 pillars, 755 foundations (20 km) and 625 pillars (16 km), and 150 spans of viaduct (5 km) were completed in one year. Nearly, 3,300 segments for a length of 10 km have been cast at the Uppal and Qutbullapur pre-cast yards.
.
Utmost precautions and international construction practices are being observed to ensure safety of the general public.
.
A 6,200-strong workforce is working on viaduct construction, depots and stations and 700 engineers are supervising the work. Each day, about 30 segments, each of 3 metres wide and weighing about 40 tons, are being fabricated.
.
The Uppal yard, being developed in a 100-acre land, will have state-of-the-art operation control centre (OCC) from where the movement of all trains will be monitored.
.
A workshop, which can accommodate eight trains, is also being constructed for maintenance and cleaning of trains.
