closed during winter due to snowfall. This strategically important railway corridor will play a crucial role in transporting troops, supplies, and weapons to the border in case of emergency. The corridor will also stimulate economic development and tourism in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. The project will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Leh from over 40 hours to 20 hours. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹992,01,40,46,867. The final study report for the new broad gauge railway line has been submitted to senior railway officials. The 476 km long corridor will include 55% tunnels, have 28 stations (14 each in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh), and operate passenger trains at a speed of 75 km per hour. The longest tunnel will be 13.5 km long, and there will be a total of 67 tunnels. The corridor will connect major cities in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh, including Beri, Sundarnagar, Mandi, Manali, Sissu, Darcha, Sarchu, Upshi, Kharu, and Leh. Additionally, there will be 100 viaduct bridges spanning 27 km, representing 5.5% of the total length. The corridor will pass through the Rohtang Pass, Baralacha Pass, Lachung La Pass, and Tanglang La Pass, the highest passes in the world, offering passengers breathtaking views of the Shivalik, Great Himalayas, and Zanskar ranges.
