Temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan ranged between 7°C-10°C on Sunday morning (December 31st). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a decrease in daytime temperatures in central India over the next 24 hours, indicating colder temperatures in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan on New Year's Day. Private weather agency Skymet predicted foggy conditions across parts of Jharkhand and Odisha, along with light rain expected in Tamil Nadu, southern Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andaman-Nicobar, and parts of the Northeast. Madhya Pradesh is on the verge of breaking a 34-year record as no cold wave has been observed this December, despite nighttime temperatures remaining close to normal. A cold wave is declared when nighttime temperatures fall 4.5°C to 6.4°C below average. If no cold wave occurs on December 31st, it will break a 34-year record. The weather department has advised caution while driving due to fog. In Madhya Pradesh, dense fog prevailed in several districts with a forecast of light rain over the next two days. Bhopals maximum temperature reached 13.4°C. Chhattisgarh recorded no temperatures below 4°C this December, marking the second such instance in the last ten years. Punjab issued a dense fog alert for 11 districts and altered service centre hours. Trains in Bihar were delayed due to fog, causing inconvenience to passengers. Fog impacted train, bus, and air travel in Uttar Pradesh, causing delays for 54 trains in Kanpur Central Station. Haryana is expected to experience a cold wave for the next seven days, with minimum temperatures between 6°C-7°C and maximum temperatures between 17°C-19°C.
