Dhanyavad! Main Bombay se Banaras kafi saalon tak safar karta raha - mostly in the 70s and 80s. 70s mein sirf teen gaadiyan thi - Dadar-Varanasi (now Kashi Exp.), Bombay Mail, and Bombay-Allahabad-Howrah Janata (became Bombay-Bhagalpur Janata, now 13201/13202). Mahanagri was introduced in 1980 as the 2nd train between Varanasi and Bombay. I was there at Ghatkopar to see the inaugural Mahanagri train.
For many years, the only superfast train in the ET-ALD section was the Ganga Kaveri. When they speeded-up the Ratnagiri Exp. (and removed many halts), it became the 2nd superfast in that section, the first superfast between Bombay and Varanasi, and only the 2nd train to skip Katni (Ganga Kaveri used to do...
