Unable to book the Sahyadri Express (11024) from Neral to CST due to not within area etc. I tried from Karjat but still the same message. However from Lonavala it's ok. So i booked to lower berths in AC2.
Of course i will not be boarding at Lonaval but will board at Neral. My question is will my berths still be valid even though i didnt occupy them from Lonaval? Will i be regarded as a non show.

Mr Nelson, I am afraid booking wouldn't be possible under any circumstances. Neral and CST, under railway parlance comes under similar set of groupings ie the suburban railway and hence a reservation is technically not possible between these two stations. You gotta either take your chances and trust the ticket checker to not have stuck to the rule book (which is common in India), in which case you get your seat at Neral OR you can cancel the present one, and take an unreserved 2AC ticket at the ticket counter at Neral. You can then hop on to the 2AC coach and sit in any empty berth available. And I am sure you will find berths in this train.

I just tried it again and still got error message

Thanks for that. What i foind diffiult to understand is why i was given a drop down menu with a choice to board at Neral as opposed to Lonavala where ticket is valid from.
However i understand what you're saying.
How about if we just boarded the train with our original printed out ticket(which i am in possession of now) and sat anywhere where a seat was free. Of course we will try to board at coach our reservation is at. A1.

Emails dont work in this regard with IRCTC.
You can actually go about with the option you've listed. Board the train, find any empty seat and sit. 99% you will find empty seats in 2AC, but incase you do find it full, just get into the next coach which is 3AC. Highly unlikely that the TTE is going to de-board you on this count.

Regarding dropdown menu its uniformly designed for all trains/stations and can't be changed for a specific train/station where in some peculiar reason will be bothering (in this case, stations falling in same suburban network). Ideally short distance bookings are given less importance and as suggested by Mr. Raviraj, try taking first class ticket in suburban and travel or with this booking, try boarding at Neral and convince TTE onboard somehow (may be by telling that due to urgency you boarded some other coach or so)...
