Crackdown on use of train toilet at stations
Think twice before you throw that bit of waste paper on the railway platform or use the toilet at stations: you might end up paying a hefty fine. Following the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign launched by the Prime Minister on October 2, railway authorities have stepped up vigil and are intercepting people who litter, spit, draw graffiti or use the toilet when the train is at the station. Though the rules are stringent, implementation has been hitherto lax, with very few cases booked.

Officials believe just as the drive against smoking on railways premises has put an end to people lighting up, the current campaign will lead to a clean environment.
Though the Indian Railways (Penalties for affecting cleanliness at Railway premises) Rules 2012 stipulate a maximum fine of Rs. 500, authorities are being lenient to start with, and are collecting only Rs. 200.
