i just really love the howrah mumbai route(un4nately this train travels upto manmad on this route)...cuz..its a high speed path...train travel at MPS(maximum permissible speed)..on bilaspur nagpur track...and train touch 110 km/hr(duronto has touched 130!!)..and apart from all..the trains r very very punctual...not a single minute delay is observed by any of trains eventhough all trains following each other..they share a high level of mutual understanding...may it b from central railway(jnaneshwari,azad hind)...may it b from eastern railway(howrah mumbai mail,gitanjali express,howrah ahmedabad express,shalimar ltt express,puri ahmedabad express)...or may it b from western railway(howrah porbander/okha)..just follow each other..and nice 2 c trains all belonging 2 different divisions but following the same route)...the only disadvantage is that if even a single train gets late...the whole link is disturbed..i.e. all go late by same amount 2 avoid traffic jam(6 trains 1 after the other in just 1.5 hours span!!!)

shalimar ltt exp,hwh mumbai mail,hwh pune azad hind express,jnaneshwari/hwh porbander express,samarsata express(on fridays,saturdays),hwh ahmedabad express...+ puri ahmedabad express(from raipur),vidarbha express(from gondia),bilaspur-pune(from bilaspur)/nagpur pune superfast/garibrath)...guess nw u hav unders2d hw much traffic is der expeceally from nagpur...so all trains run on same timing with 15-20 mins gap in between..and in case if engine failure occurs in any 1 of train...all trains r forced 2 wait..as all trains r superfast,prestigious(as they dont overtake each other except puri ahmedabad overtaking jwj mumbai mail)....and while goin 2wards hwh...following trains r der....vidarbha,pune nagpur/bilaspur/garibrath,jnanshwari/pbr hwh,azad hind,mumbai howrah mail,samarsata(2 days a week),ahmedabad howrah...phew...guess u got it

no...jnaneswari overtakes azad hind coz azad hind has more stoppages....and most routes are crowded....like hwh del, hwh chn, hwh mum, chn-mum, del-mum, del-chn. these are main lines and lots of trains....its the same for every sector. nothing special abt this sector

jnanshwari doesent overtakes azad hind..u ca c the routine fom howrah 2 pune....if u r talking about onward journey...der's a loco change at bhusaval..so azad hind is allowed 2 leave after jnanshwari has left..in no way azad hind is overtaken by jnanshwari..guess u got it!!

ya true .azad hind is not overtaken by jnanshwari...infact on sum occasions azad hind overtakes jnanshwari before kharagpur..if in case jnanshwari has become late due to technical reasons.....otherwise the two trains a mutual relationship between them(as bothe trains belong 2 central railway,both r superfasts and bothe follow same route 4 about 1720 kms(manmad to howrah),both hav locos from same shed.i.e bhusaval/src)...so no question about overtake...even railways dont want this overtake but due to sum technical reasons sum train or the other is given priority....now no more arguements!!

this is the only train which travels more than 2000km from pune and this the only train which is connecting pune and hwh. i think one more alternate train should be started so that rush in azad hind exp can be reduced and it will help the people a lot.

the problem is not exactly the number of stops, but lack of capacity on this 22/ 24 coach train. The capacity is far too less than what it can cater to. So an additional train is necessary. And if its faster than AH, then its even better.

a superfast train must start in the morning....as few trains in morning so not much traffic...der's a huge traffic on azad hind's schedule(jhelum-punjab mail-pune nagpur/bilaspur/garibrath exp-jnaneshwari-azad hind-howrah mail-ahmedabad howrah-puri ahmedabad)..

but a day time train implies that you end up wasting two working days ad against one day if the train departs at night. However i think if at all they introduce a new train, it will be on the same schedule as the pune hwh special train used to ply. As such it will reach pune woefully late at odd hours!

i really hope the railways start another train here. its always high WL in this train in all class. its not always possible to plan journeys 2 months in advance. getting a tatkal is always about luck in most of the trains.

I am shocked to see that this train now has so many halts. I remember when it was introduced, it had like 22 halts. Why is it given so many halts between Manmad and Nagpur? Jalgon ? There are like atleast 2 trains daily from pune to Jalgaon..... and from jalgoan to HWH. Most Important, the train is already a profit making train... so there was not even any reason to try increase the passenger load. Instead CR should have played with the schedule and reduced the running time. It was one of the nicer trains on CR.

true...it has an irritating number of stops. specially between pune and nagpur. and as you have mentioned there are at least 3 daily trains plus weeklies in that route. it just increases the load on an already super loaded train. another train to pune required

Seems very difficult propositon. Pune already got one duronto for New Delhi. Second duronto not possible before other routes get durontos. Puneites can always take Mumbai - Howrah duronto. The total travel time would be around 30 hrs (Pune-Mumbai-Howrah) which will still offer a good saving in time alongwith non-stop travelling.

Huge fare !!! Distance wise Pune-Howrah is 2020 kms and Mumbai-Howrah is 1968 kms. So hardly any difference in fare. The only additional fare is Pune-Mumbai (192 kms) which is not that huge.
One more option which is to be tried out, is to book a direct ticket from the counter @ Pune to Mumbai CST to Howrah. The total kms then would be 2160 (1968 + 192) and thus there will some benefit in fare for longer kms travel instead two tickets one from Pune to Mumbai CST and second one from Mumbai CST to Howrah.
On the top of all this, you save 3 hrs and hassle free non-stop travel.

not a duronto, but at least another daily train...getting a ticket in azad hind is crazy...people who have travelled in this riute will know...pune has a huge working population and a huge student community and azad hind is the only train that connect pune to east india....surprisingly there are no trains to north east as well or orissa...badly needs another daily train

when 2129/2130 azad hind express was launched it has lesser stoppages than now. this is the major train connecting hwh and pune. increasing stoppages has increased the time for the passengers who travels from 1st and last stop. why doesnt IR cancels the stoppages like Belapur or kopargaon as distance between them is jst merely 45 kms. jalgaon or bhusaval 25 kms. malkapur and shegaon is just wastage of time. bhandara road , champa.. as there are other slow express or passenger trains halting on this stations. stoppages on such stations increases travel time of a train which boasts of SUPERFAST tag..

dude..bt it earlier did took 35 hours 2 reach pune 4m hwh...and nw it takes 33 hours....i strongly agree widd u...even if its 10-12 stops r reduced between pune and nagpur(as der r other trains 2 cover stations between pune and nagpur)..it wuld take even 2 hours less..

26 halts jst becomes too much for a superfast trains and tat too on small and close range stations. and if the average speed is increased by 10 kmph as well it be well appriciated..

I want to know the funda of tatkal ticket for azad hind 2130. Today i tried to book tatkal ticket from tatanagar for 8th nov it was showing wating for 9th also. But according to new rule its 2 days before and today is 6th. There is much boarding problem in azad hind.

Have the required FUNDA here in below:
The limitation of reservation period is applicable from the originating station. Hence, normally you will see that on 6th, TATKAL upto 8th is opened but you would further see that if the train have its journey on the next day also, TATKAL is opened for 9th as well. Similarly, if the train has its journey on the third day also, the TATKAL will be opened for even 10th. This applies to General Quota as well.
In your case, the train of 8th departs from Tatanagr on 9th and hence the TATKAL was opened on 6th itself.

I think it is very essential to start another train to pune. It is always diffucalt to get tickets on Azad Hind Express.. Vurrent waiting is above 200 for any given day next week.

gentleman, as of now all classes of seats are available. in future, whenever u would like to know the resvn availability, enter train number in 'Get Train' column or mention your station name or codes in 'Search trains' column and choose your train. Tab for availability of accomodation are there. choose yr date and look for it. since you are computer savvy, its very easy in this website. try it.

why did you book it if the wl is 698? on what basis and expectation? in fact railways should not allow so many bookings at all. If all have to be confirmed, it means an additional 9 coaches which is not possible at all. there shud be limit to the WL.

Here is the reason why railway allow such high waitlist
On some popular routes, high wait-list numbers in the hundreds are not unusual, and holders of such tickets may still end up with reserved accommodation by the day of the journey since there is a lot of flux as people cancel and re-arrange their trips.
For many trains it is not unusual to see high numbers for the waitlist positions, such as in the 300s. For some trains, this is still reasonable because the trains typically see a lot of cancellation and re-booking activity in the days just before the journey. For some other trains, the high numbers on the wait list indicating that such requests for reservations are still being accepted may simply mean that the zonal railway is planning to run an additional trains as specials to clear the rush later. When the maximum wait list number defined for a train is reached for a particular day's journey, the reservation system refuses to accept any more requests for that day. In such cases, this is shown as 'REGRET' in the reservation status.
so there is a chance of confirmation of the above passenger,

your version is ok in case of normal season, but in Diwali time (17.10) there will not be cancellations, in fact more bookings only. additional train is another option, but the point is, rlys can put a stop to waitlist say to approx 40% of total availability of berths (keeping in mind cancellations etc). Instead here it is 698 that is almost equal to approx 10 sleeper coaches in the same train which is not at all feasible. Special train is a possibility, but not in the same train number and name. the train nos will change. Is there any provision to change your ticket to a special train by the railways itself? So far as I know, there is none, because you have opted for a particular train.

Even if it is taken from irfca, y does rly book this high number of wl where they surely know, they cant accommodate 700 people approx.
at the most they may increase by one or two coach.

Thanks for referring.
First of all, the blog is initiated in train 2130 while it is possible only in 2129 as in 2130, 15th Oct. is still available form hwh TO pune.
Keeping in view that the blogger would have mistaken, I presume that he / she has written for 2129.

There are some facts which I am placing here in below.
1. Total number of berths qavailable in General Quota from Pune to Howrah is +300
2. The Current status is 'REGRET/WL 391".
3. On 15th Sept. the status is "WL 530 / WL 318"
4. The Blogger must have referred to the Originial number and perhaps forgotten to refer to the current status.
Vide fact no. 2, it is established that even if the blogger is the last passenger booked so far, he has already advanced with 307 numbers.
Keeping in view the total number of berths in the main quota (fact 1), this advancing is, really higher (yet, it happens in many other trains and it can not be termed as 'abnormal'). However, this higher advancing seem quite usual for the train as is supported by fact no. 3 where the WL has advance with 212 numbers.
The Railways, from time to time revise the WL Cap keeping in view the general trend of a particular quota in a train (though it is usually kept at a higher side extending advantage to the revenue; in other words having a good number of WL passengers, probability of confirming of whom is negligible or rare).
Another general fact is that Railways start 'Regret' after the WL reaches at the CAP level but in case of substantial cancellations, they reopen the WL in efforts not to loose revenue. For example, if a quota has a cap of 300, the railway will block in the first instance when it has touched WL 300. But, suppose 200 gets cancelled; the WL will be reopened and new ticket may be WL 301/WL 101. Suppose that also freezes at WL 500 / WL 300 and later again there is a cancellation of 200. In this case again, the WL will be reopened and the first ticket after this reopening will bear WL 501 / WL 201. It is an imaginary example but explains the process.
Keeping all the above in view, my personal opininon is that the Quota set is OK with the practice of Railways to keep a good number in WL having no chance to confirm (or rarely to confirm).

congratulations for the generating a valuable blog. its so wasteful to be bashing mr jain,..... ECoR, SCR. What's the use of all the mud slinging? something to be thought about guys. Mr Jain and others please don't be discouraged. On an open forum like this i guess there will be plenty of dimwits. please dont attach any importance to their comments than what they deserve.

Bashing does not trouble me. I am still regular on the Blog and enjoy comments about me. This is what they can only do in stead of participating in a healthy discussion. Perhaps they themselves do not want me to be seen much but by virtue of their attractive comments, they make others (in addition to themselves) see me more.

Any WL is possible to get confirmed. It depends on source to destination. If its from Ahmednagar to Pune, then even that WL will get confirmed, cause during charting the system will figure out that many passengers are getting down at Ahmednagar, and hence those berths will be vacant till Pune. Following are the ways how WL gets confirmed:(1) Cancellations (2) Other station quotas remaining vacant (3) Other types of quotas remaining vacant (4) Tatkal quota remaining vacant (5) Sections of berths remaining vacant within the same/different quota (6) Attachment of additional coaches (7) Upgradation of passengers to a higher class.

Mr Jitesh, thanks for referring to me. And Mr Jain I am honoured to be in your company. Your analysis of the W/L procedure is indeed very good. The person who asked the question seems to have made a mistake in the train number/name. Let me add my bit. There's lots of gol maal going on. Lots of people book tickets on the day of opening, hoping to sell it at a premium later on. Because on printed tickets there is no identification required, unless an inspection squad comes in to check! And the W/L cancellation charges are so low till 48 (?) hours before train departure that a W/L passenger is in tension always till the last minute! Very sad. But luckily with Internet reservation now in place, this practise has reduced to some extent. SR conducted several raids last month, and found hundreds of passengers travelling on false names! Many thanks for the valuable information provided by various persons. Somewhere, it seems the main point has been missed - which was - why do railways book so much tickets than can be accommodated? Even in this particular train, there are 297 gen. sl seats but the WL is 386 for oct 15. Is it assumed that all 297 + all quotas will be cancelled by the passengers? My point in the blog (Sep 13, 1223 pm) was whether there should be a cap on WL and should approx.40% not enough, keeping in view the cancellations etc.
Hope to continue this discussion.

I am also surprised to see such high waitlist & dont know even it will be cleared or not yet there be a chance of it.
Railway also allot high waitlist in premium trains like Rajdhani.
For Example just check out the availability for 2314 Sealdah Rajdhani Exp from NDLS to SDAH from 20/09 onwards for 3A & 2A

I also faced the same problem. It is because Indian railway is removing
side middle seat on phase wise basis so sometime they have coaches
with 3 side seats and sometime with 2 side seats.
My seat no. was 25 Side lower(Planned as per 3 side seats) when I boarded the train, I found that there are only two side seats. And I got lower birth.
