The previous day, a coal-laden goods train split into two sections at Pahaड़pur station on the Gaya-Koderma rail line. The goods train, designated TD, was traveling from Koderma to Gaya. At 8:55 AM, the train's coupling connecting the 16th and 17th bogies broke, causing the train to split. The front section of the train moved forward while the rear section remained at Pahaड़pur station.

Railway aur SSB officials, fire fighters ke saath, maidaan par pahunche.Pichle din, Gaya-Koderma rail line par Pahaड़pur station par, coal laden goods train do hisso mein banta hua dekha gaya. Goods train, TD naam se jani jati thi, Koderma se Gaya ki taraf ja rahi thi. Subah 8:55 AM par, train ki 16th aur 17th bogies ko jodne wali coupling tut gayi, jisse train do hisso mein ban gayi. Train ka front section aage badh gaya, aur rear section Pahaड़pur station par hi ruk gaya.
