Two years ago, an attempted forceful removal by the RPF was met with strong resistance and abandoned. The shopkeepers claim they have been operating since 1948 and provide livelihoods for over a thousand families. They argue that if the railway officials considered it illegal, they should have stopped it earlier. While several other railway colonies in Dhanbad have witnessed demolition drives against encroachments, the New Station Railway Colony remains untouched. The shopkeepers allege that they are forced to pay Rs. 50 daily to uniformed personnel, with the collection amounting to Rs. 25,000 from 500 shops. Non-payment results in the destruction of their shops. These activities are allegedly happening with the tacit support of the authorities.

Shopkeepers keh rahe hain ki wo 1948 se business kar rahe hain aur 1000 se zyada parivar in shops se depend hain. Unka kehna hai ki agar ye illegal hai, toh 75 saal pehle hi band kar diye jaate. Aise mein, gareeb log kahaan jaayein? Dhanbad ke kai railway colonies mein demolition drives huye hain, lekin New Station Railway Colony mein koi action nahi liya gaya. Shopkeepers ka arop hai ki unse roz 50 rupees uniform wala log lete hain, 500 shops se 25,000 rupees roz aate hain. Paisa na dene pe shops ko tod diya jaata hai. Ye sab officials ki silent support se ho raha hai.
