After successful testing, the Indian Railways plans to introduce 35 more hydrogen trains under the 'Hydrogen for Heritage' initiative, with each train costing approximately INR 80 crore and INR 70 crore invested in infrastructure development. The prototype is being built at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and is expected to be operational on heritage routes within three years.
