History of Chennai-Alappuzha Express
CHENNAI- ALLEPPEY EXPRESS (16041/16042) was introduced in 1966 as No. 41/42 MADRAS- COCHIN HT EXPRESS which was also known as the KERALA EXPRESS, before the introduction of currently running Kerala superfast express, The train was extended to Alleppey in 1991.
The train initially used to leave MAS at 1530 hrs and reach CHTS at 8.25 am the following day. On the return journey it used to depart from CHTS at 1815 arriving at Central at 1025 the next day.
