This is part of Corridor 3 (Madhavaram to SIPCOT), which is predominantly underground and includes key locations such as Madhavaram, Ayanavaram, Purasawalkam, Nungambakkam, Thousand Lights, Royapettah, and Adyar. The Royapettah station will be located 21.5 meters underground and cost ₹250 crore. In total, four TBMs will be used for this corridor, with two heading towards R.K. Salai and two towards Thousand Lights. Another TBM will begin its journey towards R.K. Salai in a few weeks. The Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin, launched the TBM and also reviewed the progress of other upcoming projects, including the common ticketing system, Airport-Kilambakkam, Koyambedu-Avadi, Poonamallee-Parandur stretches, and Coimbatore and Madurai Metros. At Adyar, the two TBMs have crossed the Adyar River and are nearing the Adyar Metro station, but their progress has slowed due to encountering rock. The Minister also inspected the Phase II project at the Alapakkam Metro station, part of Corridor 4 (Light House to Poonamallee), which features double-decker construction and includes stations at Alwarthirunagar, Valasarawakkam, Karambakkam, and Alapakkam. He also visited the Poonamallee Depot, a ₹187 crore facility for the maintenance of 56 six-coach driverless trains.
